Tree and Shrub planting process

What we need from you…

Prior to planting

·         Pick a location on your property for the plant.   Be sure it has adequate sun or shade and room for future growth.

·      Mark the area with the flag given to you when you bought the plant.   If you have multiple plants, be sure you are placing the proper flags where you would like the specific plant.

·      Have any underground utilities marked.   PA ONE DIG (1-800-242-1776) can provide marking services for you with a 48 to 72 hour notice.   We cannot be held responsible for damage to any lines, cables or pipes that have not been properly marked.

The Esbenshade's Planting Process…

How?

All plant material is installed using Masters Nursery Bumper Crop soil amendments and Esbenshades Transplant root stimulator.   The Bumper Crop is mixed with the existing soils from the digging of the hole and this mixture is then used to fill in around the new plant.   The root stimulator concentrate is mixed with water and this solution is used to saturate the root system of the newly installed plant.

What?

Masters Nursery Bumper Crop is an organic soil amendment composed of peat moss, bark fines, composted manure and composted shellfish shells.   Esbenshades Transplant root stimulator contains BioPlex 5-10-5, a natural-based fertilizer derived primarily from fishmeal, seaweed and humic acid.

Why?

Bumper Crop organically amends poor soils adding much needed nutrients for proper plant growth, helps in aerating compacted soils and assists in increasing water retension.   BioPlex root stimulator reduces plant stress, stimulates rapid root growth, promotes vibrant blooms and reduces watering requirements.

After planting is complete

·      Mulch the plants if you have not had Esbenshades Landscapes do so.   A 2” to 3” covering of mulch can help keep root systems cool and retain water in the soil.   Be sure not to build up mulch around the trunk.

·      Water the plant regularly during the establishment phase.   A thorough slow watering is much better than frequent light watering.   Your plants only require what is equivalent to one inch of watering per week.   You can easily check to see if a plant needs watering by sticking your finger 3” into the soil around the base of the plant.   If it is moist to the 3” depth, it does not need watering.   If it is dry, watering is needed.

·      If your tree was staked and guyed at the time of installation, they should be left in place for approximately 8 months to a year.   If you notice tree girdling (the bark growing around the guy lines where they contact the tree) they should be removed immediately.

·      Your plant material was fertilized with a 10-10-10 slow release fertilizer at the time of installation.   This will feed your plants for 3 to 4 month.   You can continue to fertilize using the BioPlex as it is directed on the label and use another application of a 10-10-10 slow release fertilizer (or similar) every 4 to 6 months.
