Papery orange lanterns appear in late summer and are excellent in fresh and dried arrangements. Plant in an odd corner of the garden where its fall color will be appreciated.
Select a location with full sun and average soil. Start outdoors after danger of frost. Keep young plants evenly moist and well weeded.
Plants spread by underground runners. Cut off runners in early spring to keep plant from spreading. Plants are slow to break dormancy in cold climates. For drying, cut entire stem after lanterns have formed and hang to dry.
