For a few years now I have been looking at the XXL Tree Genie and always thinking I couldn't justify the price when I have a "good enough" cheap tree stand (the kind with 4 screws that go into the trunk). Finally, I pulled the trigger and it was worth every penny. When I look back on the years of trying to get the tree straight, of tying it to the wall to keep it secure; I wish I bought this earlier. It has made putting up the Christmas tree a non-event; stick it in the base and ratchet the lever until it dings, done! The reservoir is much bigger so it took several trips to the tap to fill with my little watering can, but now I don't have to be filling the base morning and night like I did with my old base.If you are like me and keep looking at this every year and wondering if it is worth the price, the answer is yes.

This is the only stand that actaully has worked for me. There is an old and a new model. The newer model has a better handle to tell you when you have cranked now hard enough and my newer unit has a collar for smaller trees that goes in the base. I also bought theCMAS TREE WATERNG DEVICE by TREE NANNY. as it is hard to get water into the base with a large tree.

Had an old, dependable, conventional stand, but one of the legs bent when I tried to put in a tree with a large trunk. This looked like a good idea, and it works great. Release the mechanism, the arms pop open, keep the tree straight and then work the lever. That's it. Also, a VERY large (2 gallon) water reservoir means you can leave the tree over the weekend without worrying about it drying out, and it's heavy, so the tree is less likely to topple over when you cats inevitably play tag up and down it. Made in Germany, and the Germans do Christmas right.

I have had this tree stand for a number of years and it allows me to safely and securely stand my tree ( 5 to 6') by myself.
