Repaired bag due to warehouse handling. The Ocean Forest Potting Soil is perfect for containers and ready to use right out of the bag. Ocean Forest is pH adjusted at 6.3 to 6.8 to allow for optimum fertilizer uptake. There's no need for nitrogen fertilizers at first; instead try an organic blend like FoxFarm Big Bloom Liquid Plant Food to encourage strong branching and a sturdy, healthy growth habit. The Ocean Forest Potting Soil has everything your plants need, in one bag. Ocean Forest is a powerhouse blend of premium earthworm castings, bat guano, and Pacific Northwest sea-going fish and crab meal. Great for indoor soil grows!

FFOF potting soil is awesome stuff, favored by many indoor cannabis growers. Its reputation as a good soil for growing cannabis is well deserved, with a few caveats.1: VERY IMPORTANT: don't add nutrients to this soil for the first 2-3 weeks. It's a waste of resources any time sooner because the soil is nicely 'hot' with all the stuff your plants need, and adding more nutrients too early may result in root burn and/or stunted growth.2: This soil is hard on seedlings and seeds. Best to start in Fox Farms Happy Frog, sphagnum, or coco coir, then pot up to Fox Farms Ocean Forest. One last tip: the addition of some perlite is helpful, say 20% or so, to promote root oxygenation.Of course, FFOF is usable for outdoor plantings also, but the cost of the soil makes it a bit pricey. (It's a lot cheaper to fill a 3 gallon pot indoors than a 25 gallon pot outdoors,) so yeah... can be expensive for outdoor grows.I would recommend this soil to any new cannabis grower with the caveats listed above. Sure, you may grow beyond Fox Farms stuff after one grow... but it's a good place to start!

You have to add more perlite to this soil for better airation and growth of roots other wise soil gets crustie and hard. OHH and if you over water and dont have proper fan system blowing over soil, NATS will start to over run your roots/plants be aware. This happened to my plants. So buyers be aware. This soil will get thouse gardon plants growing Freaking huge just be aware of this issue's you could run to with this soil and you'll be 💯💯💯💯💯

If you grow herb, buy this mix.

Posted by Shivas Irons on Mar 6th 2016

I am a MMJ patient legally allowed to grow my own herbal medicine. This year I planted a dozen very very expensive seeds in Miracle Gro seedling mix and immediately lost half of them. They grew extremely fast and then fell over.Research showed that this is the same process that ChemLawn uses to kill crab grass in your lawn. High rates of chemical nitrogen causes this collapse. Apparently, Miracle Gro and others that claim they have enough fertilizer for 3 or 6 months will have the same effect.Fox Farms Ocean Forest is all natural composted organic material. I rescued the remaining six seedlings from the Miracle Gro and repotted into this and immediately they started to grow normally. When I had the seedlings unpotted, I could see that there was virtually no root growth even though they were a spindly 4" tall because they were drowning in fertilizer.Less is more and organic beats inorganic apparently. I will never make this mistake again. Thank you Fox Farms!

    The Best Soil, Period.

I'm surprised to see anything but glowing reviews for this product, but it does sound like one reviewer got a bad bag. I've been using this soil for a few years now and am constantly impressed with the results. It's great for both indoor and outdoor growing. I've only used it in reservoir pots (the ones you can leave a reservoir of water under and they self-water through the soil). This year has been a terrible growing year for many Vermonters due to the torrential rains we've been having. I find this soil has great drainage and my plants are just enormous! Last year I grew the same strain of tomatoes in side-by-side Earth Boxes. One had the FoxFarm soil and the other had Organic Miracle Gro. The Miracle Gro box had some issues with late-blight, showing the drainage wasn't great, and the tomatoes grew slower and were much smaller. The FoxFarm tomatoes looked like they were out of a catalog. I was seriously impressed. This year I shelled out the money to use this soil for my entire deck garden (about 4 cf). Using the same starts that my Dad started from seed my garden is about 1-2 weeks ahead of him in growth and flowering. I just can't argue with these results. I also did not find any bugs in the soil bags so I really do think that other reviewer encountered a fluke. I will definitely buy this again next year.

Plants should be honored to grow in this

Great growing medium. Just make sure not to add nutrients for the first 4-6 weeks, as it is already full of them.
