Description
Birdhouse Gourd
Unique and fun to grow! Produces several gourds per vine--six to eight inches wide and seven to ten inches tall. The long vine has velvety smooth foliage and bright white flowers. After the gourds dry they can be carved for a birdhouse or left whole with the seeds rattling inside. This seed packet weighs 3g.
Planting
Select a location with full sun to part shade and rich soil for best growth. Plant outdoors about two weeks before last frost date. Feed monthly with side dressing of compost or vegetable food. For best shape, set gourd upright while growing.
Harvest
Harvest in late fall after the plant has died back. Leave as much of the stem on the gourd as possible. Dry in a cool place with good air circulation. When seeds rattle, your gourd is completely dry.
