The one hummingbirds seem to prefer over other feeders I use

    Posted by A. B. Barham on May 13th 2017

Of my all my feeders, this seems to be the one hummingbirds prefer. I think it is because 1) the red upper is broad, larger, and thus more attracting than most, 2) the distance between each feeding port is much greater, which means there is more space between hummingbirds if they feed as a group. They're not bunched up together like most other feeders, and 3) red top provides protection for the fluid from direct sunlight. Most others have no such protection and just hang with the reservoirs heated by direct sunlight. I suspect that results in a slightly cooler drink for the hummingbirds. The only reason I do not give it 5 stars is because the upper surface connection to the reservoir could be better. Be careful not to break it while trying to attach. Don't assume it just "sits" on the reservoir. It does attach, but requires a little tender patience until you learn how the perimeter top/bottom attachments is done, then it is easy. The upper/lower connection needs improving, but after a couple of uses it really isn't a big problem.

    A Real Winner!

Posted by Judith Filangeri on Feb 8th 2017

I've had 2 of these for several months. The hummingbirds love 'em and so do I. For the first time, I've seen more than 1 bird at a time on the feeder. And they are a positive joy to clean. The top lifts off and the well is totally accessible, none of the fishing around with a bottle brush. I was a little concerned that the wind here in Las Vegas would be a bit much for the rod hanger but we've had our usual gale force spring winds and...not a problem. The ant guard seems to work well also. I will be ordering at least one more.

Pretty good but my birds don't prefer this style.

Posted by Sarie on Jan 25th 2017

I have this and a more classic style feeder (the pinch-waisted clear bottle with the red flowers at the bottom) both on my patio. After experimenting a bit with swapping their positions, I've determined that the hummers prefer the other style. They will drink from this one but it's not their favorite.Other than bird preference, it's fine. It's very easy to clean (easier than the other style). Though the directions don't say to do this, I've run it through the dishwasher with no issues (using only an eco-friendly, unscented detergent). And I really like that you can see the hummingbird tongues dipping into the nectar - so cute. One thing I'm not sure about is if they could still access the nectar once the level gets near empty. It's true that hummingbirds have really long tongues but I'm not sure how long? Just in case I try to keep it at least halfway full at all times.FWIW - my hummingbirds are mostly Annas, with the occasional Rufous. Also note - the top doesn't really snap in place and just sort of rests there like a lid. So far it's not really a problem, but was not quite what I expected.

    Beautiful little bird feeder

Posted by Heather on Dec 17th 2016

Beautiful little bird feeder. Everyone who has humming birds should own one of these! Ingenious design. Brilliant style and function and so easy. I know that without this little feeder many little ones would not have survived our harsh Vancouver cold snap this winter. Remember to feed your birds! This will make it so easy! We're putting out a second one tomorrow and were so happy we chose to gift so many friends with this little darling of a feeder this year! Make super gifts for Mother's Day. Birthday's or whatever!

    Just right!

This feeder is the ideal size for the small number of Hummingbirds that we get. No wasted nectar. The birds seem to love it and we haven't had any problems with bees like we did with the feeders that have the yellow centers..
