This species is an exceptionally cheery border perennial. Its golden yellow, starry flowers appear in clusters on 10–15-inch stems above dark green foliage. Plant bulbs closely together in clumps among perennials using 5-10 bulbs per square foot. The leaves of the Allium will go dormant later in summer, when the perennials are in their prime. Alliums are sun-lovers and prefer well-drained, even sandy, soil. Tuck them among clumps of summer-flowering perennials where the Alliums' withering foliage will be hidden by the expanding perennials.
