Long Island Improved Brussels Sprouts
A garden favorite since the 1890s. Sturdy, semi-dwarf plants bear an abundance of dark green, tender sprouts for several weeks. Delicious roasted or steamed. Packet is 1.5g.
Planting
Choose a rich, moist soil with plenty of organic matter. Time your plantings to mature while the weather is cool in early spring or late summer. A second planting is possible in mild climates.
Harvest
Brussels sprouts are ready to harvest when the heads are firm and about 2" in diameter. Remove individual sprouts by snapping or twisting them to break away from the plant.
