Lemon Cypress Care


Lemon cypress, also known as “Golden Crest” or “Gold Crest”, is a tree native to the Monterey bay on the coast of central California. This tree is gives off a lemony fragrance, and as it is a Dwarf evergreen, makes it a great choice for containers.

 


Houseplant

 

When picking a spot indoors for your new Lemon Cypress tree, you will want to make sure the tree has access to plenty of light—at least six to eight hours of direct sunlight per day. You should also turn the plant regularly to ensure each side has gets enough light.

 

If kept inside, do remember that the Lemon Cypress tree does prefer cool temperatures. The thermostat should be in the low 60’s in the wintertime.

 

As for water: it is absolutely necessary to remember to water your lemon cypress houseplant. You will want to water them once a week, whenever the soil is dry. However, make sure not to overwater these plants, or you will risk problems with root rot.

 

Repot every 4 years, and be sure to use a fast-draining soil mixture.

 


Outdoors

 

The Lemon Cypress can spend the summer outdoors in a very sunny location—it will not survive shade. If you live in a Zone 7 or warmer, you can easily grow this tree outside throughout the year. Just make sure to move the tree outside after you are sure there will be no more frost. When planting it in the ground, make sure that the spot that you pick is protected from cold winds. Just make sure that the soil is well drained. Make sure after you plant the tree that it is well watered. Also, in the springtime before any new growth appears, you can apply a fertilizer to help your Lemon Cypress.
