Over the course of time, Christmas tree decorations have taken many forms. While it was first real fruits and nuts that decorated the Christmas tree, since the mid-19th century it has been these glass beauties that have made trees shine in a variety of ways. This trio of 2-inch balls are hand-blown glass using molds based on the old templates of Lauscha. They have grooves running from the top of the ornament to the bottom. They are painted in a white and light brown color and then finished with patina to give it its unique vintage appearance. Although they are very simply stated, they would be a striking addition to any Christmas tree as they are reminiscent of old-fashioned ornament balls.
This trio was produced in Steinach, Germany, by Marolin Manufaktur, who has been producing high-quality ornaments, decorations, and figurines for European collectors and connoisseurs for over 100 years. This ornament exemplifies Marolin's niche of producing mouth-blown ornaments using old molds, then painting and finishing the items in such a way to create a vintage or 'antique' appearance. You will notice brush marks, minor color inconsistencies, rubs and an occasional small scratch, or even what appears to be missing paint. These are all part of the artistic charm that goes into the creation of Marolin ornaments. These are brand-new ornaments, made to look like a family heirloom, and which can become a family treasure to be passed down to future generations.
