Description
Ruby Seedless Hybrid Watermelon
Imagine a watermelon that's extra sweet and succulent, bright red and juicy, but with no annoying seeds. That's what you get from this marvel of plant breeding. Plants produce large fruits and grow best where space is plentiful, weather is warm, and water is ample.
When and where to plant
For earlier crop start seeds indoors 4 weeks before the expected spring frost. Sow 2 seeds per pot, using a lightweight soil mix. Soil temperature must be kept between 80-85℉ for good germination. Place seedlings in full sun to avoid stretching. Harden a few days before transplanting to the garden. To assure adequate amount of pollinator plants, sow all seeds and do not thin.
Care
Control weeds by cultivating or by use of black plastic or other mulch. Water heavily once a week during the growing period. For best flavor, reduce watering somewhat when most melons are nearly full size.
Harvesting
Pick when the underside, or "belly" of the melon turns from white to yellowish. Melons of pollinator variety will have seeds.
