Description
Hearts of Gold Cantaloupe
Slice one open and inhale the sweet aroma of a vine-ripened melon. Better yet, these melons taste as sweet as they smell. Inside is a fine-grained, dark orange flesh and a small seed cavity. Small, 6-inch diameter fruits are perfect for one or two people. Melons prefer a warm, sunny location with sandy, fertile soil. Sow outdoors 2 weeks after the last spring frost when the soil is thoroughly warm or start indoors 3 weeks before the last frost date. Transplant carefully so as not to disturb the roots. Keep plants evenly moist during the season. Harvest when to stem slips easily from the fruit and the melons have a sweet, fruity scent.
