Description
Lemon Grass
Lemon grass is a tender, ornamental perennial herb but belongs to the grass family. Both the leaves and stalks have a distinct lemon flavor which is used in cooking. The essential oils of lemon grass can also be used in cosmetics and in aromatherapy. The plant grows in dense clumps up to 2 meters in daimete and has leaves up to 1 meter long.
Where to plant
Select sunny or partially shaded location. Sow as soon as groun can be worked. For earlier crop, start indoors. Plants grow in sandy, well-drained soil. For best results, loosen soil with a spade or for, working in vegetable food. Firm soil over seed and keep moist.

Keep soil moist.
Harvesting
The lower sections of the stalks are peeled, chopped fine and pounded to release their flavor for use in fish stocks, curries and in stir fries but are removed before serving.
