Description

Grow bigger, stronger plants with PittMoss Prime!

Key Product Features

  • PittMoss Prime is proudly produced in the United States from 99.9% recycled paper fibers and small amounts of organic bark.
  • It is OMRI-listed for organic growing, features less dust than traditional soil amendments and is free of pathogens, bugs, weed seeds, heavy metals and other harmful ingredients.
  • Due to its ability to retain applied resources and evenly distribute them throughout the porous particles to make them more readily available to the plant’s roots, this product requires less water.
  • Ideal solution designed to be mixed with compost, fertilizer, or other garden soils for improving and establishing lawns, planting trees and shrubs, and replacing peat in potting soil blends.
  • PittMoss sources all paper ingredients from local recycling facilities, hand sorts each batch to ensure zero contaminants and conducts extensive testing to create a perfect living soil environment.

PittMoss Prime is a peat-free, OMRI-listed, lightweight, and sustainable soil alternative designed to enhance aeration, water management, and biological growth, making it an excellent choice for organic gardeners. It is free from pathogens, weed seeds, heavy metals, and other harmful contaminants. Additionally, it can be easily blended with other mixes to transform challenging planting environments and is a great option for improving and establishing lawns, planting trees and shrubs and replacing peat in potting soil blends. When used as a peat substitute for potting soils, PittMoss recommends using at least 30-50% of PittMoss Prime with a blend of compost and other amendments. By using PittMoss, gardeners can reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with peat bog mining, and it offers a cleaner, more consistent soil option with rigorous testing to ensure optimal performance.

Peat free is a good thing

Posted by Jeffery E on Jul 13th 2023

I am down right Passionate about Pittmoss. I very much want to see the container growing industry move towards peat-free soilless mixes. This is very important for the environment. I have been experimenting with Pittmoss for four years and found that mixing the soil conditioner with organic compost, a little pine bark, worm castings and rice hulls for better drainage to be a good mix for growing container stock. The product is light in weight, comes very clean and ready to use. It is a win for the environment in two ways. It keeps peat moss in the ground continuing as the supreme carbon sink it is as well as finding a very viable use for our recyclable paper products keeping them out of landfills. Plus it grows beautiful healthy plants. What's not to love.

    Good stuff.

Glad to get a recycled product like Pitt Moss. Seems to hold moisture in my planters the way I want it to. Comes out of the bag pretty lumpy; need to break it up before mixing with other soil elements. Other than that, no problems.

Crazy, this stuff makes plants grow

Posted by scott patterson on Mar 7th 2023

This is both a great product, and a product that is good for the earth. It is better and cheaper than Peat moss, plus it is made of recycled paper product, instead of digging up a diminishing supply of Peat that is not carbon friendly. Plus, the real thing I like is that it does make plants grow!

    Highly recommend for worm bedding

Posted by PVAHSMama on Nov 4th 2022

I purchased Pitt Moss for worm bedding based on a recommendation from a YouTube video. The moisture retention in this product is awesome! I did not have to worry about water dripping out of my worm bag, and the worms acclimated quite well. I know I can shred paper and cardboard, but frankly, I do not have time and needed something easier that would not serve as a deterrent to trying vermicomposting. This helps me keep it in the low maintenance range. Returning to buy more to have on hand since it sold out right after I purchased it. Will only use this product as my bedding.

    Seems to be adequate

Posted by David B on Jul 9th 2022

This is the 2nd bag I have bought. While it is still very early to determine how effective the product is, I generally believe it is good to use. I have planted a lot of shrubs this year, so I have been putting one or two handfuls in the bottom of the hole, along with handfuls of alfalfa pellets. There are no bad effects so far, but it is hard to tell if the product is effective.
