Grow bigger, stronger plants with PittMoss Prime!

Key Product Features

  • PittMoss Prime is proudly produced in the United States from 99.9% recycled paper fibers and small amounts of organic bark.
  • It is OMRI-listed for organic growing, features less dust than traditional soil amendments and is free of pathogens, bugs, weed seeds, heavy metals and other harmful ingredients.
  • Due to its ability to retain applied resources and evenly distribute them throughout the porous particles to make them more readily available to the plant’s roots, this product requires less water.
  • Ideal solution designed to be mixed with compost, fertilizer, or other garden soils for improving and establishing lawns, planting trees and shrubs, and replacing peat in potting soil blends.
  • PittMoss sources all paper ingredients from local recycling facilities, hand sorts each batch to ensure zero contaminants and conducts extensive testing to create a perfect living soil environment.

PittMoss Prime is a peat-free, OMRI-listed, lightweight, and sustainable soil alternative designed to enhance aeration, water management, and biological growth, making it an excellent choice for organic gardeners. It is free from pathogens, weed seeds, heavy metals, and other harmful contaminants. Additionally, it can be easily blended with other mixes to transform challenging planting environments and is a great option for improving and establishing lawns, planting trees and shrubs and replacing peat in potting soil blends. When used as a peat substitute for potting soils, PittMoss recommends using at least 30-50% of PittMoss Prime with a blend of compost and other amendments. By using PittMoss, gardeners can reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with peat bog mining, and it offers a cleaner, more consistent soil option with rigorous testing to ensure optimal performance.

    Best Peat Moss Ever!

Posted by Customer on May 3rd 2020

I am an experienced vegetable gardener. I have tried many brands of peat moss but this one is exceptional. It actually has large “flakes” of peat moss where most are nearly a powder. It is soft to the touch and really gives some volume for holding moisture around the roots of a newly dug-in plant. I use it too for placing in the hole with seeds. This is great stuff and my vegetables will be all the better for it! ~ Review orginally posted on Amazon

    Best thing ever

I've used this ever since I saw it on Shark Tank and I think it's perfect. For all those negative review - you need to read what this is made off - recycle paper. Off course every now and again you will get a clump of what looks like an old newspaper but that's what it's made off. If helps keep in the moisture, it helps protect a little bit against the squirrels - it's great.

    Works like it's supposed to.

I love the fact that this is made from recycled materials. It works exactly like peat moss to hold moisture in the soil and decrease the need for watering. I put a layer at the bottom of my Earth Boxes to wick moisture up from the water reservoir, then mix more into the planting mix. I'm buying this product again. ~ Review orginally posted on Amazon

I will keep using this product and not peat moss.

A great product. Use as directed and plants are thriving. I will keep using this product, no reason to destroy the environment for peat moss or ship peat moss from other countries anymore. ~ Review orginally posted on Amazon

    Great for plants!

Posted by Adina on Sep 12th 2017

Pittmoss is an excellent alternative to peat moss. I like to make my own potting mix, so I use this in place of peat moss and vermiculite or perlite. I mix one part top soil, with three parts compost and two parts Pittmoss for most of my potted plants. It retains moisture well but still allows air to flow to the roots of the plants. At the end of the season, I just put the used mix in my compost pile or right on my raised bed veggie garden before winter.

    Worth a try.

I like the concept because I have read about the depletion of peat. However it really holds water so it is important to understand the soil where you are using it and the requirements of what you are planting. We have had a very wet growing season so I have been turning my beds to keep everything aerated. A plus is the ease of handling. ~ Review orginally posted on Amazon
