    Keeps the bees away!

Posted by lbrlartist on Sep 16th 2017

In early August, my hummingbird feeders were swarmed with hundreds of honeybees! The poor hummingbirds were not able to feed during the days. Also, I was afraid that either I or my dogs would get stung and it made sitting on the back porch impossible. I didn't want to hurt the bees so I did lots of research - nothing suggested worked. Then, I found these feeders and they solved the problem. I had to gradually change out the feeders as it takes a while for the hummingbirds to accept a new feeder, but once I was left with only this type of feeder, no more bees! The bees can smell the nectar, but cannot access it so they don't hang around. After a couple of weeks, I tried putting out a barrel-type feeder again and had to take it right down as the bees came back immediately. The feeder is easy to clean and easy to hang. The hummingbirds also like the perch all the way around. My dogs and I have our back porch back too.

Constantly wasting nectar because of the design of the product... hummingbirds do seem to like it though!!!

Posted by Karen Anderson on Aug 18th 2017

I would have given this product a 5-star if it wasn't for the fact that, when the nectar starts to get low, the hummingbirds can't reach it. For every 4 cups of nectar, I'm wasting 1 cup (or more). I hope this design flaw is fixed in the near future. If the return window wasn't closed, I would have exchanged it for the 12oz... at least I wouldn't be wasting so much nectar and having to throw it away on a regular basis.BTW: The hummingbirds really seem to like the design of the HummZinger. Once they got the hang of it, and realized they could sit and relax as they drink, they enjoyed it. After falling off a couple times, the woodpecker is enjoying it as well. Yes, I have a woodpecker that comes everyday to enjoy the nectar as well!

I am happy with this feeder so far & the hummingbirds like it. I was surprised that it wouldn't fit with bee guards, but the shape seems to be working because the wasps and hornets have stayed away. It does, however, let in some small fruit fly-type bugs that end up dying in it and floating in the nectar. It does hang a bit crooked and the top doesn't snap on perfectly but it still works just fine so far. I love how easy to clean it is, and it's the perfect size for 2 cups of solution.

    NO BEES!! REALLY!! (And update)

Posted by desertwiffie on Jul 29th 2017

Every summer the bees drive me and the hummingbirds crazy. I tried everything, even bee feeders (the bees loved those and the hummingbird feeders, didn't help the original problem). My son said these are "dumb looking" and they are, but the bees can't get to the nectar. One will land, wander around, try to stick his head in the hole, travel underneath to see if any slop-over is dribbling on the outside, but then just flies away, disappointed. If the bees are driving you insane too, try these, they're worth every penny and the hummingbirds are as happy as can be.******* Update - just went thru another summer, I saw maybe 4 bees investigate these and give up. Trust me - they work and the hummingbirds are as happy as ever.

    The hummingbirds love it.

Posted by Lisa S on Jun 28th 2017

The hummingbirds took to it immediately. I had two other tall feeders that they didn't seem to like and a small one with this design. They loved the small one, so I thought I'd give this one a try. They started using it as soon as I put it up.

Love this feeder-that's why I gave it a five stars although it is not the hummingbirds favorite-they are more attracted to another feeder that has yellow flowers. I used little pieces of yellow electrical tape and put it above the flowers in hopes of attracting them. They are using it but not as frequently as the other. I read other reviews about some feeders they received were not the real thing but knock offs-this does seem like the real deal-it seals very tightly and does not leak and it seems really sturdy.

Awesome & non-metallic - iron from rusty metal can kill hummers

Posted by Customer on Jun 10th 2017

Did you know that metallic hummingbird feeders can kill hummers? In fact at the Arizona Desert Museum they had a die off of all their hummingbirds. It was later renovated after sadly discovering an infection of iron storage disease in the hummingbirds. Source; Hummingbird Society Sedona & Desert Museum url. I saw rust in my old feeders & thought that can't be good. I called them. sure enough the rust can create a high iron concentration that causes iron storage disease. So I really like this feeder. Soo-oo easy to clean. Massive capacity. Downside, & the only reason I gave it a 4 is that some small flies can enter the feeding ports & cause the solution to spoil. Make the ports a little smaller Aspects & I think you've got a 5. MADE IN THE good ol' USA!! :)

The one hummingbirds seem to prefer over other feeders I use

    Posted by A. B. Barham on May 13th 2017

Of my all my feeders, this seems to be the one hummingbirds prefer. I think it is because 1) the red upper is broad, larger, and thus more attracting than most, 2) the distance between each feeding port is much greater, which means there is more space between hummingbirds if they feed as a group. They're not bunched up together like most other feeders, and 3) red top provides protection for the fluid from direct sunlight. Most others have no such protection and just hang with the reservoirs heated by direct sunlight. I suspect that results in a slightly cooler drink for the hummingbirds. The only reason I do not give it 5 stars is because the upper surface connection to the reservoir could be better. Be careful not to break it while trying to attach. Don't assume it just "sits" on the reservoir. It does attach, but requires a little tender patience until you learn how the perimeter top/bottom attachments is done, then it is easy. The upper/lower connection needs improving, but after a couple of uses it really isn't a big problem.

    A Real Winner!

Posted by Judith Filangeri on Feb 8th 2017

I've had 2 of these for several months. The hummingbirds love 'em and so do I. For the first time, I've seen more than 1 bird at a time on the feeder. And they are a positive joy to clean. The top lifts off and the well is totally accessible, none of the fishing around with a bottle brush. I was a little concerned that the wind here in Las Vegas would be a bit much for the rod hanger but we've had our usual gale force spring winds and...not a problem. The ant guard seems to work well also. I will be ordering at least one more.
