Description

Grow bigger, stronger plants with PittMoss Prime!

Key Product Features

  • PittMoss Prime is proudly produced in the United States from 99.9% recycled paper fibers and small amounts of organic bark.
  • It is OMRI-listed for organic growing, features less dust than traditional soil amendments and is free of pathogens, bugs, weed seeds, heavy metals and other harmful ingredients.
  • Due to its ability to retain applied resources and evenly distribute them throughout the porous particles to make them more readily available to the plant’s roots, this product requires less water.
  • Ideal solution designed to be mixed with compost, fertilizer, or other garden soils for improving and establishing lawns, planting trees and shrubs, and replacing peat in potting soil blends.
  • PittMoss sources all paper ingredients from local recycling facilities, hand sorts each batch to ensure zero contaminants and conducts extensive testing to create a perfect living soil environment.

PittMoss Prime is a peat-free, OMRI-listed, lightweight, and sustainable soil alternative designed to enhance aeration, water management, and biological growth, making it an excellent choice for organic gardeners. It is free from pathogens, weed seeds, heavy metals, and other harmful contaminants. Additionally, it can be easily blended with other mixes to transform challenging planting environments and is a great option for improving and establishing lawns, planting trees and shrubs and replacing peat in potting soil blends. When used as a peat substitute for potting soils, PittMoss recommends using at least 30-50% of PittMoss Prime with a blend of compost and other amendments. By using PittMoss, gardeners can reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with peat bog mining, and it offers a cleaner, more consistent soil option with rigorous testing to ensure optimal performance.

    Great product

Posted by Diana C on Jun 29th 2022

I have purchased many, many bags of this product and think it is terrific. I mix it with compost to make a wonderful potting soil, and soil for potting perennials that I have divided. I also mix it with coconut coir for mulch. Rarely, if ever disappointed. Hopefully, in the future the company can figure out a way to dehydrate and compress the product to reduce the plastic packaging, thereby being even more environmentally forward than they already are.

Great sustainable alternative to peat moss

Posted by Julie Flanagan on Jun 29th 2022

I used Pitt Moss in place of peat moss to make my own potting mix based on the recipe from the book Square Foot Gardening.ù (The recipe calls for equal parts peat, vermiculite, and blended compost.) It seems to have worked well and does a good job of keeping the mix moist. I really like that the product is sustainable (there is a limited supply of peat in the world and it apparently doesn't renew as quickly as it is consumed.) I also like that is made from recycled paper and that it is light weight, so easy to store.

So far I have loved it. I use it as a part of some substrate/soil mixes for terrarium use and it’s been great!

Great for a Peat Free Soil Block Mix

Posted by Kindle CustomerKindle Customer on Mar 5th 2022

I've been trying to find a recipe for a soil block recipe that doesn't contain peat due it's contribution to climate change from CO2 release. I've discovered that equal parts of Coconut Coir, PittMoss and well screened compost with Perlite or vermiculite added for drainage results in a soil block similar to using peat that doesn't crumble and holds moisture well. Very pleased that this product has been developed using locally sourced waste stream material

I would rate pitmoss 5 stars. I’ve bought several bags and the plants I planted with pitmoss are thriving much better than the ones without pitmoss. I will never buy a bag of potting soil dirt again.

I give PittMoss potting mix a 5 ⭐️. I recently repotted several of the same plant, and thought I’d run out for the second one. (I found it too late. ?) The second plant has just dirt and it’s nearly dead, while the first is spawning it’s replacement. I’ll be using the good stuff for that one!

    An excellent growing medium

I use it several different ways but always notice plants look healthier. ...and it's because they have strong roots! Keep it fluffy so roots can explore and benefit from the air spaces.
